2005 Season - Week 2
All-Time Leading Points Scorer
The controversy continues. After announcing that Chief was the All-Time Leading Points Scorer when he included the Post Season points in the year end newsletter Johnny (who Chief has passed) lodged a formal complaint stating that Johnny is still the All-Time Leading Points Scorer as the NFL record books do not include the Post Season. Pah! - says Chief, All-Time means All-Time and that includes the Post Season. Meantime Wayne has suggested the record book should only start from when the league expanded to 16 teams when he and Aaron joined at the start of 2001. So attached is the table for the All- Time (since 2001) Leading Points Scorer (with & without post season stats). Remember Ron has only had 3 years in the league as he bought Gully’s franchise before the 2002 season.
Never played in the Conference.
While we are looking at the BUMS record books 2002 was the year the 16 owners agreed with John Botten’s initiative on splitting of the league into 2 divisions. After just 3 years only 4 owners have spent every year in the Premiership - Chief, Marcus, Mark and Wayne. It’s very early days but after 2 weeks Mark and Wayne are in the relegation zone.
Tomlinson & Favre
Two future Hall of Famers saw big numbers this weekend. LaDainian scores a TD in his 14th consecutive game (an NFL record) while Brett became only the third QB (after Marino & Elway) to surpass 50,000 passing yards. However the most important stat for both of them, they are both 0-2. Was San Diego’s success last year a fluke, should Favre have retired?
Fame & Shame
Congrats to AP who despite having a RB on IR made the Hall of Fame this week as Santana Moss scored 2 TD’s in the last 4 minutes of the last game of the weekend to lift his total to 56 points. Meanwhile Wayne found shame for the first time as he failed to score a point, partly because his kicker Jason Hanson was out injured.
BUMS on Seats.
We will be at Johnny’s from 6pm on Sunday evening to see Randy Moss v Terrell Owens as the Oakland Raiders travel to the Philadelphia Eagles followed by a repeat of last year’s AFC Championship game as Pittsburgh host New England.
